Through the YES! Pledge Campaign, we are spreading awareness for both Heart Health and Teen Dating Violence Awareness for the month of February at our partner schools. At each school, a bulletin board was created to display information about physical and emotional heart health. Tips on reducing salt and heart attack risk as well as healthy relationship advice and signs of abusive relationships are posted as a resource for students and faculty.
We are encouraging both students and faculty to commit to a healthy heart behavior and to implement this pledge throughout the month of February. Examples of pledges include drinking more water and cutting salt, exercising more, taking the time to communicate effectively with a partner or showing appreciation toward your partner. Once a week YES! staff set up a table during the lunch periods at our partner schools and hold challenges to generate awareness for the campaign. Students and faculty can compete at the jump rope challenge and/or the food label challenge for the chance to win a YES! T-shirt or wristband.
Our hopes are that the campaign will increase awareness of nutrition and fitness as well as dating violence in our schools. The campaign also gives students in our partner schools who may not have class with YES! to gain valuable nutrition and fitness knowledge and learn about the YES! program. Our Youth Health Educators are also excited to act as campaign representatives for their schools and get as many pledges from their peers and staff as possible!
