Hi, my name is Raheem Bell and I am an incoming first year medical student at the Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine. I’ve been a health educator for Y.E.S. for the past few weeks, and have enjoyed spearheading the fitness component of the boot camp.

This week I would like to highlight one of our peer educators, Maddie. She’s a rising sophomore at Josephinum Academy in the Westside of Chicago. She’s very talented in the arts, and has aspirations of becoming a neurologist. She’s fascinated by the brain, and how people work. On our field trip to the Feinberg School of Medicine this week, she was able to meet with current students and faculty to further explore what a career in medicine might look like.

Our second week of Youth Empowering Strategies Summer Bootcamp!

My name is Brandon Sims and I am a Health Educator for Youth Empowering Strategies (YES!). The theme of this week, the second of our summer boot camp, was “Knowledge of the Community”. This theme was reinforced throughout the week.

We had a great time at our first charity BINGO event! A big thank you to Hamburger Mary's for hosting us. We walked away with good food, lots of laughs, and funding to continue to support the efforts of YES! with Chicago's youth.
